Poetry is Pakistan's national habit. Iqbal's philosophy in Urdu and Persian, Faiz's resistance verse, Bulleh Shah's Punjabi kafis and Shah Abdul Latif's Sindhi Risalo are recited in classrooms, at shrines and on stage at mushairas that run past midnight.
